The description certainly fitted the scene at the Canberra Race Club's race meeting held on Friday 8th April 2016 where in race six of the day, the four-year-old son of Darci Brahma (NZ) hit the front soon after straightening for home full of running...almost flying you may say.

TOUCHED BY LIGHT appeared to relish the six day backup after just missing at his previous start at Goulburn, by an eyelash.

Obviously Scott had assessed his charge perfectly and determined that the horse had pulled up very well from that run and set him for his next assignment at Canberra.

The horse was always going to start favourite in the betting after being caught right on the finish line at Goulburn.

He was dropping in weight and from barrier one and just that little bit fitter, he would be able to take up a handy position and have a fairly cushy run.

The plan was played out perfectly, TOUCHED BY LIGHT began well, taking advantage of his inside barrier settling in behind the leaders on the rail.

Approaching the 1200 metres the jockey Brendan Ward had his mount three lengths off the pace and travelling at a nice steady rate.

On passing the 800 metres mark TOUCHED BY LIGHT was making steady ground inside of other runners and were now in third position, Brendan then summed up his situation and decided it was time to get a "wriggle on".

Prior to the home turn the jockey had eased his horse off the fence and was positioned outside the leader ready to pounce... and pounce he did.

After the field had straightened TOUCHED BY LIGHT had increased the margin to the rest of the field and was travelling like a winner.

By this stage the duo were setting sail for home with Brendan maintaining his rhythm giving him a couple of slaps of the whip to keep his mind on the job.

It was TOUCHED BY LIGHT the victor, the winning margin was one and a quarter lengths in the time of 2-07.50.

It was great to see the horse break his maiden status in such style. An excellent, heady ride by Brendan and to the owners Mr J Iori and Mr G L Jones congratulations on the win and we would like to thank you for giving us the opportunity to train your horse.

We are looking forward to TOUCHED BY LIGHT saluting the judge again in the not too distant future.
