The Ready's Image (USA) two-year-old filly SHAZEE LEE successfully completed her first-up mission with a win at the Newcastle Jockey Club's race meeting held on Saturday 23rd July 2016.

Her fantastic effort was even further vindicated, winning over 1350 metres at her first run this preparation.

It was a sign that she will only get better as the distances increase.

The Teralba Road Surfacing 2yo Maiden Plate was the fifth race of the afternoon, Bobby El-Issa was declared as the jockey and he rode SHAZEE LEE perfectly.

From her outside barrier, the plan was to settle rearward, get the filly to roll along at a comfortable pace thus allowing SHAZEE LEE every opportunity of running out the distance strongly.

The plan unfolded to the letter. The filly was eased to the back of the field after the jump with Bobby settling his mount and rolling along nicely at the back.

At one point in the running with 950 metres of the race remaining, the rider became aware of the increase in tempo and gave SHAZEE LEE a push along, she responded so quickly in fact he had to grab hold which caused the filly to resist a little.

However the two-year-old settled once again and approaching the home turn was travelling well

within herself with all the other runners in front of her.

The speed was being put on as the field entered the straight and were heading for home.

Still at the rear, 350 metres out, Bobby contemplated a gap in front of him ... it closed causing the rider to ease SHAZEE LEE wider to the outside and into open space.

Once balanced, Bobby El-Issa asked his mount for her final effort.

Within 200 metres horse and rider were gaining momentum on the leaders with every stride.

However the Peter and Paul Snowden trained Tirone Miss had the same idea and were going strongly.

To his credit Bobby maintained his momentum on SHAZEE LEE and was reeling the leader in.

Sheer determination and will to win were the order of the day with SHAZEE LEE sticking her head out and going on to win by just short of a head.

Her win giving us two wins from our two runners.

Great efforts all around, horse, rider, trainer and of course the owners and breeders Dr and Mrs Kowalczuk.

It was pleasing to see your colours salute the judge and are sure they will do so again soon.
