At the end of the day there's nothing like a special sunset.

It was reiterated again when the debutante three-year-old filly SAVONA SUNSET led all the way in the 1350m Farrar Legal 3yo Maiden Plate run at Wyong on Friday 5th August to record win number one in as many starts.

Judging by the way she did it, there are more wins in store and taking her breeding into consideration, even more so as the distances she races over get longer.

SAVONA SUNSET had been sent for a spell following her first outing in a barrier trial at Warwick Farm in April.

Returning in good order, she had trialled nicely in two trials prior to coming into today's race.

The ever-astute Scott once again had identified that the filly needed her gear tweaking, applying a noseroll and a lugging bit after her last trial.

Kathy O'Hara had ridden SAVONA SUNSET in her latest trial and must've liked the filly, gaining the mount in her first race start.

The betting showed that the daughter of AJC Australasian Derby winner Roman Emperor (NZ) was well respected in the market holding steady at around $6.

The 1350m start at Wyong is located in the far back corner of the course with a fairly long straight run to the first bend.

From her barrier on the outside of the three others runners, Kathy Jumped her mount out nicely and without too much effort, SAVONA SUNSET had taken up the running and getting along at a steady clip.

At the 1100m mark the filly was two lengths in front still travelling well within herself.

Approaching 600 metres from home the field had bunched slightly the margin was three quarters of a length to the second horse, The Happy Lady, is was status quo passing the 400 metres pole with Kathy urging SAVONA SUNSET along maintaining her rhythm and keeping the filly's mind on the job.

After having a cushy run in transit, it was left to the locally-trained Pindara with Robert Thompson aboard to issue a challenge 250 metres out.

Although the second horse was making up some ground, SAVONA SUNSET safely held her at bay going on to win by half a length with a further three and a half lengths to The Happy Lady finishing third.

Congratulations to the owners, members of the Matricciani family, who also bred SAVONA SUNSET, you have a lovely filly on your hands who will go on to bigger and better things.

We must mention and thank Kathy O'Hara for a gem of a ride, rating her horse to perfection and also well done to the team at Singleton Racing.

We are definitely looking forward to what the future holds for this filly.
