We'll have to wait and see as SHAZEE LEE, the three-year-old daughter of the American-bred stallion, Ready's Image (USA) caused an upset by taking out the Provincial Championship Qualifier (1400m) at Hawkesbury yesterday, 2nd March 2017.

The victory came after a fast finishing second placing also on her home track ten days prior.

Trainer Scott believes the improvement in the filly's last two runs is due to riding her back in the field.

Scott mentioned it had been a challenge for his team and a job well done to get her to achieve this as she is a bit of a keen-goer and wants to get on with the job.

It was pleasing to see Christian Reith back on board SHAZEE LEE as he stated after today's win that he expected a good performance from his mount after her previous run.

There was a lot in SHAZEE LEE's favour, she had drawn barrier one out of thirteen, the 1400 metres definitely suited, the filly had to carry a kilo less weight and the track was a heavy 8.

Her only other victory was on a heavy track at Newcastle back in July 2016.

Unwanted in the market, SHAZEE LEE was sent out a $21 chance after as much as $31 was on offer prior to betting opening on-course.

Beginning on par with the field, Christian grabbed hold of his horse and eased SHAZEE LEE until he was positioned where he wanted to be, back in the field with one horse behind him.

Nearing the 1000 metres mark, the pair were some eight or nine lengths of the leaders, Token of Love and Buddaroo Knight.

The jockey was still biding his time even though his mount was still a little keen to get going.

With the 600 metres pole behind them the pace was quickening. SHAZEE LEE was raring to go but remained under a good hold by her rider.

Once into the straight, balanced up and 375 metres from home, Christian after summing up the situation, stayed three off the fence and was headed for a gap in front of him.

Christian now had a clear passage to the post, maintaining his line he asked SHAZEE LEE to go and the acceleration she displayed was astounding.

So much so that with 175 metres to go the duo were challenging the leader Buddaroo Knight.

The pair were literally low flying 100 metres out and on crossing the line were 1 ¾ lengths ahead Budderoo Knight, which had stuck on really well, and the rest of the field.

Heartiest Congratulations to the Kowalczuks, breeders and owners of SHAZEE LEE.

This win now gives you the opportunity for your filly to become NSW Provincial Champion of 2017....Good Luck !
