The first interstate win for the stable occurred when Platinum Jack travelled down to Mooney Valley to race in the 3000m SPORTING BET HANDICAP on Friday night (8th February). Ridden by Kerrin McEvoy with 55kg on his back, Platinum Jack looked the winner the whole race. He sat last one off the fence rounding the home turn, took the lead and won by 2 lengths.
One of the main reasons for travelling that distance, apart from the length of the race which suited the horses staying ability, was that Scott wanted to give him a run the Victorian way round. Jack (Platinum Jack) has a bad habit of hanging in when racing clockwise as they do in Sydney.
Scott thought it might give him something else to think about to run in the opposite direction, but, as it turned out,Platinum Jack seems to like to hang in no matter which way he is travelling.
