Pendragon's high class filly, Dark Brown Sugar, tuned up ahead of the Sydney Autumn Carnival in impressive fashion yesterday when winning her first trial for 2012 in imposing fashion.
The filly, already a winner at Royal Randwick by 5.8 lengths, was never troubled in the Hawkesbury trial, settling on the speed and then lengthening stride to slide clear of her rivals under the guidance of apprentice Chad Schofield. On the line Dark Brown Sugar had 4.3 lengths to spare in the 1000m hit out for three-year-olds.
Dark Brown Sugar (seen right when winning at Royal Randwick on Melbourne Cup day) has been expertly handled by Scott Singleton throughout the formative stages of her career. The Hawkesbury based trainer will also be given the opportunity to train the younger full-sister to Dark Brown Sugar when her time comes.
Cardsino, the dam of Dark Brown Sugar and the above average sprinter Mac Chois, is currently in foal to Pendragon again.
