Singleton Racing Stables had reasons to kick up their heels after a great day at the races on Sunday 7th June 2015.
It wasn't only the fact that they trained two winners, VANISHKA and SMOOTH ELEMENT, but in addition the stable recorded it's 100th winner when VANISHKA saluted the judge.
It was race five, the Global HR Class 1 Handicap run over 1000 metres that provided our first winner of the day - VANISHKA a bay or brown three year-old daughter of Written Tycoon out of the mare Shazee (Danewin) bred by the Kowalczuk family.
Apprentice jockey Jessica Taylor had the ride, her claim of 1.5kg meant her mount only had to carry 52.5kg with the filly drawing barrier three in the field of eleven runners.
The gates opened and VANISHKA was 'on the bunny' immediately, after a hundred metres the Allan Denham trained Magic Topaze was sooled along to take the lead.
Jessica was quite content to stay where she was, second on the fence and rating beautifully.
It wasn't until rounding the turn for home that horse and rider eased off the rail and began to make up ground on the leader.
On straightening and after getting balanced, the filly was asked for an effort and she responded accordingly, now at a full gallop she was vying for the lead with Magic Topaze, as gutsy as ever, sticking on along the fence.
About 150 metres from the post, the battle was on, Jessica gave her mount a couple of slaps with the whip and VANISHKA's fighting spirit became evident, asserting her supremacy she went on to win by a half head from Singles Soiree which was finishing strongly, with a short neck the margin to the early leader.
There was also a reason to celebrate for Dr. & Mrs Kowalczuk as VANISHKA's victory was the second win within a week for them after SPINNING DAWN, also trained by Scott, was successful on her home track last Tuesday.
So it's congratulations and celebrations all round, it was a day that will be remembered in the minds and hearts of many.
